Steinbeck uses discrimination in his book to make the reader have sympathy for crooks because when Curley’s wife tells him that she could â€Å"get him strung up by a tree so easy, it ain’t even funny† for being black. This makes the reader have sympathy for crooks because he has done nothing wrong how ether his race makes him less equal to a white person as he does not have the same rights to them. .
