North by northwestward Alfred Hitchcocks North by Northwest (1959) is considered by many to be his greatest attainment in American frittermaking. His film follows the struggles of Robert Thornhill (Cary Grant) after he is accidently anomalous as George Kaplan, a government spy. Philip Vandamm (James Mason), the villain of the story, and his sidekick thugs pinch, chase, and judge to executing Thornhill throughout the film. Eve Kendal (Eva Marie Saint), an intelligent, seductive blonde vivifys Thornhill by scratch line seducing him, then giving him up to the forged guys, an then once again later by protect him as the double promoter she re every last(predicate)y is. The film concludes with Grant saving and freeing himself from all of the mixed up confusion, winning the girl, and riding off with her on a gear into a tunnel (after making her the troika Mrs. Thornhill). While this happens to be my favorite Hitchcock film, I have to discord with the majority in thinki ng that this is his greatest achievement in American filmmaking. It is sure as shooting one of his most entertaining films, (which is partly the reason I chose to watch all 136 minutes of it), but other films of his, such as Notorious or put in Window, repoint Hitchcock at his best. In these films his love of pure motion exhibit is evident in almost every scene.
However, North by Northwest is probably the best Hitchcock film to string unneurotic some of his favorite themes: the common man wrongly accuse of something seemingly important, the motif of false/mistaken identities, the mention of coquet acti ng and the theater, and the MacGuffin (Spoto! ). There were two scenes in incident which brought together these main themes through Hitchcocks uses of cinematic techniques, dialogue, and mise-en-scene. The elemental scene takes place right after Vandamms thugs snatch Thornhill. The three are crammed into the backseat of a car, none talking.
